130 feet of 130# mono makes it easy to remember

Ok but when you hook a fish you have to pull 130 feet of line with your hands? Is there easier way to catch wahoo?

Wind on leader, clips off the planer and a good 100' plus leader. I have one rigged at my home if you need to see it, just let me know and I'll show you how I learned to rig one from Marty Hyatt years back.

Put your planer out at the desired depth on it's own separate line. Put our your favorite wahoo bait on wire 100 foot or more behind the boat. Lure is at this moment a surface lure. Then take a double snap swivel and attach 2 #64 rubber bands to the snap swivel and the other end to the mainline of the line you just put out. Let out more line on the reel and the bait sinks to the same depth as the planer. If you're concerned the mainline will wrap or tangle the planer line, take a 12-18 inch piece of heavy mono with a swivel crimped on each end to put some distance between the 2 lines. When a fish hits, the rubber band breaks and you are now fighting a fish with no planer attached. Only drawback to this method is the planer is still in the water and might have to be cleared. Easier if you put the planer (or z-wing) on a downrigger.
