Been trappin in the pax this summer - pretty productive. last time out noticed the trots were working deeper area - anyone tell me what depth theyve been working? i usually set at multiple depths to see but was just wondering
I'm not a pro but just my experience..............right around 7 feet seems to be working the best for me right now.

Wow....that's quite a range of answers!!! AND, not at all what I had expected!!! After our experience last weekend, and reading crabbermanlj's post, I figured we were just too deep. We got out Sat PM and instead of taking sloppy seconds from the normal spots (there were more recs out there than I can ever remember this tme of year), we ran to some new water. Put out 600' and 20 traps in 6-12' (water temps were 74*F) and we did....HORRIBLE. Nothing but females and small males. We crabbed the end of the tide cycle and quit about the time it stopped running (3-4 hours). But, we're rebated for this weekend and will try again.....shallow this time....and back to some old haunts that should be less crowded.
Good luck,
Joe

The better quality crabs seems to be a little deeper imao, but in the past two weeks it seems the females have also moved into the deeper water,Also probaly due to the cooler nights. My suggestion to you would be,if you can start your line in 5-6 ft and end the line in 12-14 ft,or drop over 10 or 12 traps at various depths to see whats there and then decide where you want to lay your line.
