    Default Crabbing the Pax 9/25

What a difference a week makes. last week i thought i was losing my touch or the season was coming to a close. It took me all day to get 38 crabs and none over 6 inches. This morning i was there at first light and done by 9:30 with 68 heavy crabs. Could have had a bushel of legal crabs in about an hour, but there were ALOT of light crabs today. The boys helped me sort them with 27 over 6.5 inches and the rest were 5.5 to 6.5. Wind was the perfect direction so i drifted along with the line and only bumped the motor to course correct.

The older one goes but mostly eats food and points out the crabs, the younger one doesnt seem to like crabbing but does ok with croaker and spot. The older one, Josh, can pick his own when eating but likes claws because he does like his dad and drinks the juice as you crack the claw knuckle.

Same here for last week lots of females up by Lens, and had to wait for the outgoing tide to get any decent males. we just finished picking them so now I have to make soup and the crab cakes. Probably gonna hos odd on that til before game time tomorrow.

We got big females on the outgoing tide last Tuesday 10 to 1. I don't think that an ingoing or outgoing tide make a difference for catching males or females. It is just the depth and areas they are feeding in. Those boys will grow up fast and be driving the boat before you know it.Are you coming to crab fest?.........Gary

Struggled to get 3 dozen today with traps in 4-10ft a few miles north of Lens within sight of the benedict bridge. First light was good and slack tide was dead. Lost a LOT of necks from my snoods due to terrapins. We caught 15!! There were alot of culled over crabs with broken points, many females as well.
