Default Cobb Island Rockfish --- It's all good!!

Fished on the lumps this afternoon in front of Cobb Island, incoming tide.
Best part about fishing here is it's only five minutes from my home port.
Fishing alone, in 10 minutes had a two fish limit (28" & 26").

Fish were hugging the bottom, for the most part.

    Hey Cobb,

I'm down there now full time. We've been doing decent 3 miles north of you but not quite that good. Let me know when your going out next and maybe we can hook-up.

Can you tell me where those lumps are located and what method you are using to catch them? Me and a buddy are coming out of Monroe Bay this weekend to try to find some action if we don't get blown out. Any help would be great. Thanks...

You need a quality chart plotter to locate the lumps. Look for the low spots marked on the chart. My chart shows the low spots as blue, the deeper water as white.
When you see a lump come op on the sonar, mark it as a way point, then you can go back to it over & over. I have about 50 marked. Look on the chart for Carters lumps, very easy to find. I troll double buck tails near the bottom. A moving tide is a big help. Fished alone Wednesday and caught two fish in an area referred to as
"Dolly Pardon" (Stratford cliffs), across from Cobb Island on the Va. side. Don't think I will be out there in that wind tomorrow, good luck!

1987-cobb if I may ask what kind of sounder are you using? I really like the quality of the display and readout!

    Lowrance HDS8 & HDS10. Broadband sonar.

Here is a chart screen shot showing some of the "blue" areas that may
contain some lumps. You still have to find the lumps in blue area. That took
lots of time, but it's been worth it.

My buddy has the HDS 8 on the lower station and HDS 7 on the upper so finding the lumps shoud not be a problem. If your near your Lowrance anytime in the near future perhaps you could give me one or two coordinates for the lumps from your waypoint settings. Are you running inline sinkers or drop?

Both. So far the lines with the heavier weights, almost dragging the bottom, have been catching fish.
