Folks, I've often said that luck is where opportunity meets preparation, and yesterday that held true. The opportunity presented itself with a perfect tide at the perfect time of day for my Elizabeth River speckle trout spots.
Anthony, (aka wind knot) Shayne (aka #2) and myself (aka broke up) meet at farm fresh at 5:30am yesterday morning. We put over at Portsmouth city park and were anchoring about 9 minutes later than I had hoped. We were the only boat there. We casted the 17 mr mirrolure likes Capt. Hester had instructed. It didn't take long before the first trout was caught by Shayne, a nice 18 incher. The three of us took turns catching specks for the next hour or so. It wasn't hot and heavy but steady. Shayne had the hot had on the specks today with his pink on pink lure. Other colors where the 808 and a few custom colors that I had. Blue on Orange and blue on pink. After the tide slowed we made a move and immediately caught 3 drum and rockfish.
The coast guard ran us off from that spot. Said we were to close to there property. We politely said sorry and left. Went to another spot not to far away and started catching pups again. This time on grubs. 1/4 ounce and a green twister. It really wasn't fair for the drum, at one point I swear I saw a white flag sticking up out of the water.
We left at the end of the tide and went riding around, but only managed three more trout and one rock.
It was a beautiful day with good friends and we caught fish to boot. Doesn't get much better than that!
I'll give more details about what where and when at the next club meeting if you ask nicely!
Here is a pic of a few of the fish we caught.
Thanks again Buddy! I had a blast. Can't wait to do it again!!

Nice report Craig. If you have another "opportunity" this month and need some "opportunistic" anglers to Help Out, I could be available. Got some days off here and there through the end of the month. Never fished the Elizabeth but I'd welcome the "opportunity". Got some live bait left and assorted mirrolures.
Great time fishing with you guys. Nice choice of nik-names, especially Shanes and your broke up as....! I didnt quite understand mine though!!!! Can't wait to get on em again.
LOL oh man!! You're a funny guy Doc!
Ware fisher - I'll see what future opportunities may present themselves.
Great Report Byrd! I should check this forum more often for info. Shane has been kind enough to give me a few pointers via PM, and I managed one pup on Friday. I know the specs are coming, I just have to get to the right place at the right time. Sounds like you guys put it all together. Thanks for sharing.
