Thumbs up OI Sat 23rd Oct Tuna/Dolphin

    Crew: Conner,Chub,Mike,Seth,Craig & I.

Fished the morning at the Point with a LOT of other boats. The bites for us started off on the hot side in the 3.5 plus knot tide. We picked out some of the bigger ones while also pulling hooks on a few. Later as things slowed down we crossed over to the the green side above the 600 to get out of the tide & away from the crowd. Lots of deep marks but we were not able to get any bites from them up top. We put down a deep rig with pink witch/hoo but it didn't get the love I felt it should of. I think a better choice would of been a spoon. Anyways we continued up the line in the not so pretty water but was impressed at all the Squid marks down deep plus lots of Pilot whale activity which had my attention big time. Man I kept thinking how great it would be if some better water would just push on in. We ended up continuing on past the Tuna hole with intentions to find the remaining eddy that had been east of the inlet from the 700-750 or so. We found it but at this point it was fading fast with the best of it out around the 750 in 600 plus fathoms. There we went back due south till we found a change with some trash & foam. Then we came across an old rusty white/brown bucket that had some really nice (spring sized Dolphin). Man what a day saver!!! We were not able to get them on the chunk but every pass with trolled baits racked up till we seemed to get most, if not all of them (16 in total). They were super hungry. Then we went back down to the 620 or so where we finished the day jigging on the deep marks. This produced well but not the big ones like we had in the morning so we called it a day with nearly a box full of Blackfin & Dolphin mixed. Great ride in & then back at the house, Beck showed up just in time with a bushel of the big fat crabs. Awesome weekend for sure.

Now I see the water has pushed right in over the bottom. Man I wish this weeks weather would let me back out. The fishing is gonna go off with all that bait up around the Tuna hole. Just let this full moon settle down along with the weather & by next weekend it should be on. The long liners out deep have been getting the Yellows good already.

PS, was down at Wanchese today. The boat is getting close. I'm super excited with what Jim Polatty & his crew at Freedom boatworks are doing for me. They are top notch craftsman & also just plain old good people to deal with!!
A few more weeks & she will be ready to splash.
I just got back last night and I'm already planning the next adventure.

Only the truly ate up understand the maddness.

    Bill.

Great report Bill. Man it was nice out there. I ran the old Warrior with the new owners to Charleston, SC. I could see the boats in the distance working a warm water eddie catching some sailfish, wahoo and dolphin off Frying Pan Shoal.

Nice work Bill, thanks for the report. We will be looking to head south either this weekend or next, or the next or the next LOL. Thanks again.

    Nice report Bill,
Glad to hear you were able to break away from work and get Fancy out for some action. Look forward to getting down to OI and fish with you soon, my work schedule just never seems to ease up this year. I bet the anticipation is building big time on getting the new ride out on the fishing grounds, sure you will have her dialed in no time at all.

Great report Bill, awesome weekend for sure. Hell, we can steam our own crabs on the Circle Back, no need to come back in!

John, you know Bill is now talking to the fabricators on installing a burner to steam crabs, not sure we will be allowed to crack claws on the deck though.

Me thinks it would be prudent for Bill to install a can crusher next to the crab steamer for those days when Terp and boys are on a roll...could also double as a crab cracker, two problems solved...
