Left Sunday out of Broad Creek around 8:30. Bay was probably around 2-3 feet and some wind. It laid down as the day went on. Went up to Fleets Bay because there was a decent fishing report on here earlier this week. Had some decent bait and fish marks but no takers. Then went south around R2. Same thing, lots of bait and mark but no takers. Was skunked, not even a knockdown all day. Did not see any birds working anywhere all day. We heard on the radio that some people caught some fish around Smith Point and Tangier Sound but we sure did not see anything ourselves or see anybody else catch any for that matter.
We did the same thing, knocked a few fillings out of our teeth getting there from the Piankatank, but worked north and east of 2R and the fleet. Picked up one blind trolling in the morning. (Chartreuse umbrella w/9inch trailer) Around noon saw some birds working further east towards the cut channel, the first we'd seen all day. Got to them and our limit in short order. All 21-23 inch fish. Not big, but fat and healthy. Small shad umbrella down, red and white stretch 25, boken back green shad and the chartreuse umbrella way back all caught. Only our tomic didn't produce. Heard the same report about Smith Point early, then 42 later.
Thanks rwferr. Just lucky, and thankful the wind let up! My future son-in-law was along for what was his second trip and spent a lot of time at the helm. I figured we'd hold class away from fleet in deference to the fleet. He's hooked now having seen birds working and the result of trolling around (not through) the birds and bait. He got to see a bait ball that went from the bottom to the surface. I'll be out Friday, Saturday and Sunday this weekend looking for a big one...or two. Good luck and tight lines.
Will do. I have a 22 C-Hawk Sport cabin w/Suzuki and wish I a cabin to get out the the cold as nice as yours! I also have downriggers, which may make picking my boat out of a crowd a little easier.
