Looks like you've caught Benji at the right age. He's old enough to contribute, yet young enough to get totally immersed. My boys are older (16 and 19 now) and although they help when asked on my project, they don't show that kind of enthusiasm.
The time lapse camera is a terrific idea. With it up on the wall, you don't have to remember to clean your hands, pull out the camera, and take pictures for the record.
My friend and neighbor told me I needed to take on a project like this with my son before I lost some of my 'coolness' with the kid. I'm glad I took his advice as my son seems to be at the perfect age to enjoy this project. I've been away all week for a sales kickoff, but the first thing he asked about when I got home this evening was what do we do next? I'm loving this.
Looking good Rob,, the coolness with your kids will come and go. Mine are all busy doing other things, girls, hunting, trucks and alike , Hang in there!
Thank you for helping me with my decison. I thoroughly enjoy your posts and gonna attempt my first build with my son this spring. It'll be his first boat. Also, planning a single sheet kayak....keep the progress updates coming.

Here's my 2 cents, keep it cuz I've got a nickel!
We took a little break from boat building this weekend but hope to have some new progress pics up by next weekend. After a two hour lesson, I decided to take him down some tougher hills against my better judgment, his face shows how he felt about it :) TJAM - just do it, it's great time together.
Nice!!! Been following your build.....starting to come together. I think I could handle all of the build except the mechanical. I would have to hire someone for that. Are you doing it all ?
I will do it all. Actually, I will feel much more comfortable with the build when it comes to rigging as I've done that before. Bending wood without breaking wood is new for me :)
