    Default fishing in the spring

I have kept April 1 in the back of my head for a few years as a time when the stripers and some trout are available in shallow water. I suspect they can be there earlier, but that is the earliest I've succeeded. This was in a shallow creek mouth on fly and I've seen stripers to 36" and specs up to 24" on april 1. Wish I had more time and better weather earlier to test the waters, but this is the best advice I can muster. I suspect there are fish holding on any structure around this time and guys will be trolling too. There will be a million fat croaker in and around your creek pretty early too. Use soft plastics on the bottom, flies with sinking head, or strap on a bait rig for catching alot. some spring croaker are big ones and are fun. good luck. If the weather stays like this, maybe it will be march 1. I've got flowers popping up in my yard!
