    Default tips on nets

I am just getting back into some crappie fishing, picking up a 14 jon, and making a list of things needed.
Does anyone have some tips on a good net to buy? I was thinking a 4 ft or better handle might help out this old back.. suggestions?

A retractable net with a longer, fat handle works well and is easier to use when you are alone.

I think have a few old crab nets in shed, I will look, thanks.
Does the material used to make net seem to make a difference? (easier to remove from net)

I'm doing pretty much the same thing. I paid $9 at Greentop for what's basically a crab net with a 14" hoop and minnow netting. That was 3 years ago & it's still doing the job. It landed my biggest crappie ever--a 2.5 pounder.

It's probably easier to untangle hooks from regular crab mesh, but I don't have too much trouble.

Material makes a difference if you are using multiple hooks or crank baits. The extra hooks may get tangled in the net. It makes little difference if using single hooks (a jig or just a plain hook).

I use a long handled net. Really comes in handy when Dalton gets too close while pilfering my fishing spot. I just reach out and wipe the drool off his chin

I buy the cheapest net I can find, the faux wooden handle, green net. Bass Pro, Walmart, & some gas stations have them. $10 bucks. Good thing is they float!!!
