Nottoway/upper Chowan report

We decided to go today and not take the chance of rain tonight messing up the water. Launched at the 258 ramp and trolled up to the first curve in the river. Before we got to the no wake bouy here comes the game warden around the curve. Guess what? My FL ran out Feburary 20th. We had everything else in order and the two wardens where very polite. Told me to get a senior citizens and he would check it the next time. Off they went.
Ron and I both have NCFL so down the river we ran and trolled the upper Chowan for rock. No takers so we began fishing for white perch setting up right at the state line where the Blackwater and Nottoway come together. We caught 5 small cat fish; 9 white perch with 4 keepers.

Some are good guys, others seem to be real a$$ Holes. ( or maybe just bad day) The one that checked us today wanted to us to hold up everything even though he could clearly see the items he asked about in our boat!

how big is keeper size? I've always wanted to go but was told that most were 8"-9" and keepers were 10". Is that true?

Dang AC im glad he gave you a pass on that one... were they channel cats or blues? Thats about right russell, But those little things pull for their weight..

PP all channel. I think. All where very small. Undertheradar as PP said your size on keepers is about right, that is depending on if your having a fish fry or not. Some of the 8/9 inch fish have some fine shoulders on them and do make a fair piece of fish.

As Sen. John Kerry would say; "Got me one of those there senior fishing license" Got it on my lap top and guess will wait till I go to the office Tuesday to print it out. They don't say a word about mailing a hard copy to you It only cost $7.00 I will say about the two wardens yesterday they where the best attitudes of two young wardens I have met in the field. Did check us out to the degree but to me that is their job. It is how they handle themselves while doing that is what matters. I didn't mention it until they where pushing off from Ron's boat, but remember my friend the Federal Warden??? Last thing I asked as they pulled away if they knew him. Both said very well and what a good man he was.
