I am going to take my son out monday to do some bowfishing for cownose rays. I have not been out in the boat for the last 3 weeks so I dont know where they are the thickest. Any suggestions on where to go. thanks

Contact VIMS and ask them for the locations of recent seed oyster plantings. The rays will be there for the buffet. [wink]

    Wasabi,
The the 200lb test line attached to the arrow is 25' long with a large barrel swivel. Once we have one on I attach it to a large eyed boat rod to fight. If it is a big one we might stick another arrow in it but it is usually not needed. Once we get him up to the boat use the gaff to land.[wink]

OK, after you land them what do you do with them? They (VIMS) say that they are good to eat. But I haven't got a clue on how to clean or cook them.

Several years ago, when involved in the seafood industry we tried to market Cownosed Rays here and abroad with no luck. Seems that this strain of Ray is not very delectable for even those that can eat most anything.

I find it interesting that VIMS finds them edible.

Soak them in saltwater for 2hrs before you cook them, and they are great eating.
