Default Oblivion offshore 5/1/11 - workin' the grass

Headed offshore with Capt Dave at the helm. Dave decided to run to the break out deep around the 250 line. Nice ride out in calm seas...

We arrived in I believe 68 or so degree water and dropped the lines in with a few signs of life here and there. Some grass started showing up and then Dave found a pretty nice grass line out in 900f with 70-72 degree blue water. Some breezy conditions caused it to break up a bit which is always fun to deal with but as we trolled north, we started getting a few gaffer bites. We finally boated a couple nice 15 pounders then Dave found a sail of some sort floating and we got whacked by Mahi, missed a couple Wahoo (one troll bait cut in half and one jig cut off) and then got whammed with 7 or 8 lines coming down. Held onto 6 and got 4 YFT and 2 mahi out of that! Worked this back and forth and picked at the tunas and mahi which seemed to get progressively smaller although we did boat one more nice 35 pound YFT. Ended the day looking away from the now broken up grass but Dave decided to go back to the sail where we jigged up some small YFT and chunked up a few more Mahi for the box.

Ended the day with 13 YFT (kept 6) and 16 Mahi from 5-15 pounds. Great day out there...only mishap was me stepping backward into an open fishbox during the melee (no injuries) and some old cargo rope wrapping up one prop while trolling. Dave, being the manly surfer man that he is jumped in and cut the ropes off...he said the water was very warm and cobalt blue while swimming but he saw some "shadows" down there and got out quickly after the cutting was done - I'll warn you now, he was in his skivies when he jumped in so cover your eyes if you're shy or don't want to see it

Weedline (with Still thinkin' Bob trolling on the other side)

    Dock Shot

Danny, No worries, I'm not at work...I'm in Key West enjoying the good life. Fishing Tue on a charter, not offshore though. We watched the tarpon today hanging around the fish cleaning station.

You'll be ok now Bob; I made Glenn delete the picture- Great to have you along as always wildman Bob. Congrats on your catch too. If I ever want to beat you to the break I guess I'll have to leave at midnight. That water looks even more interesting today Bill- too bad the Wx is not cooperating again. Dave
