Need a little help....
Hey all – Looking to see if I can get a little help. Not asking for wreck number or anything just looking for a little “what would you do”.
Fishing with a friend on his 22’ boat out of Virginia Beach. He is vacationing there and I’m planning to take a day off to run down and fish on Monday. (Also happens to be my birthday, so the wife couldn’t really say no!). I would LOVE to get into some of the tuna that I have been hearing about in the Washington. I believe they are heading south now as well… I have never fished out of VB, normally out of OC MD. So not 100% sure what our plan will be. Can anyone share some intel on where they would go and what they would target? If the weather is good enough for our small boat, I would love to look for the tuna and have sharking as my backup. Any chance they will still be there? And would you mind sharing where you think “there” is. ha
I’m planning to look at some sat shots to see where the water is, but I don’t have as much experience tuna fishing. ANY INFO you give will be helpful.
Thanks in advance.
(Also, any boats that want to buddy on Monday would be great)
Just check reports here from weekend. Get yourself a Captain Seagull offshore chart from the tackle shop or change your chart plotter so you can see Loran #s and know where everyone is talking about. A buddy boat and close watch of weather reports would be a good idea too. Most people here are going to be running to Norfolk canyon and north.
I personally would go to the 200 to 300 line start in 25 fathoms and troll east until I had a bite or two, then work north and south a bit to stay on the fish. If I got out to 250 fathoms with out a bite, I would have to say I struck out unless I heard otherwise on the radio.......If I struck out, I would troll west on the best angle to set up for a nice ride home. Then at 3 or 330 I would crank em in and go to the barn. Capt. Joe
Darn Joe, I was locked and loaded a little to the norh till i read yout post- when the old manin the sea speaks you gotta listen- you see sumthin in that new water don;t ya? dave
In looking at Terp's chloro shot, there may be some cleaner water south of the canyon from the 200-400 line so perhaps Capt Joe is onto something.
Thanks guys. I appreciate the help. Based on the reports, it looks a little slow out there. I think the plan now it to run to the tower for some AJ action. And maybe do some sharking on the way. I'm assuming the AJs are at the tower now???? If any of you have any other thoughts for me or hear of something going on, id love to know. thanks again - graham
