Default not all the way offshore... but somewhat offshore

hi everyone, i am new to the north carolina fishing scene but this year for my birthday we got a house down in avon for a week and i am taking my boat :). i have a 21ft key largo center console, we are coming down the last week of august and the plan is to do some fishing in the pamlico sound a couple days and weather permitting try and get out into the ocean to a couple of the closer wrecks... i have some coordinates i have gathered for some of the wrecks, but now i am looking for advise on the fishing styles down there... i am very familiar with trolling for striper or rockfish not sure what you all call them down there and i also do alot of light tackling for them as well... i have a boatload of penn 330 gti and didnt if them and my spinning rods would be good enough or if i need to borrow some of my friends bigger gear... this trip is almost 2 months away and i am slowly but surely trying to gather as much information as i can to make the trip successful... thanks in advance also another question i read alot about people fishing the sound in kayaks... is it too shallow for my boat, because i can always bring my skiff along as well

I've done the small boat thing out of Hatteras for a few years in a row now, it's pretty cool to go out with the big boys and catch em on your boat with your own stuff. There should be all kinds of life on the wrecks and mahi pretty close in. Wahoo and kings might be snapping pretty good too. Just watch the weather and maybe team up with another for a buddy boat. Should be plenty of blues, spanish and flounder in the inlet and on the sound side channel back towards the marinas. Don't know too much else about the sound down there.
