Can anybody give me a recent update on the condition at OI hows the crack...and i hear the sand is pushing up at the bridge how many spans south are they using?
I went through it 2 weeks ago. The crack is very well marked. Just stay to left of the markers going out and you will have no problem. We went through the center span of the bridge and there was plenty of water for 24' albemarle. When you go through the bridge turn right for a 100 yards or so and then pick up the bouys.
If in doubt, follow a charter boat out. They leave around 05:00.
If we get the east wind they are calling for the inlet will be snotty this weekend. More that I want to deal with.
Been a few weeks now for me but last time through most were taking the south span (1 over/south from the center) I decided to check out the center & there was plenty of water under it but you just had to hold it hard south after you pop out on the east side. The strong tide seems to be keeping it clear but just a bit tricky to steer through when the current is ripping. Even more difficult in a bigger boat with a single I would imagine thus the reason many are now just taking the south I would assume. As for the rest, all is well/same but just remember to keep off (east) of the green bouys between the bridge & the start of the Crack (in bound from the ocean) cause the deeper water has been closer to the bridge (red side).
Again this info above is now 2 weeks old so if anything I have just written is not correct please speak up on this post Please.
I cant wait to get back out myself but between work & other obligations, it's been tough to make it happen. Looks like this weekend may be a bit crappy which figures since I could get away.
Whoops!! Sorry Byron. you beat me to it. Thanks for the update.

Reason: Thread jacked Byron
I just got back last night and I'm already planning the next adventure.
I was just through there sunday, I have been using the south span as well, but like bill said there is plenty of water in the center span also.
The crack is marked really well still, thanks to the captains at the fishing center. Also like bill said, avoid the last two green buoys before you line up to pass under the bridge (stay more to the left or towards the red buoys). sunday the green cans looked like they were bouncing off the shoal. Otherwise, the inlet is great, very straight forward and well dredged.
