Tuna fishing was slow."
That is an understatement. It plain sucked. We set up at 845pm wed on top with about 7 ther boats. chunked most of the night, got one shark that cut the floro. early am we got a runoff, a mahi. and that was it. i saw 1 tuna boated within the 20 boats i had eyes on. a few were reported on the radio, but not near us! there were 75 boats plus around the area.
many boats including us, pulled the hook and went to do something else. we got one mahi that i lost at the boat, and that was it. very sad day overall.
one bright note was the wx was amazing.

damn. Had been thinking about the same trip on sat-sun. i am sure there will be many more boats out there, which won't help what sounds like an already slow bite.
man what a sight that was, never saw so many boats on one hump. similar report...zero pulls on the evening/night chunk. trolled in the morning and found 2 mahi, oh and a nice branch on the way back...a real drag screamer.![]()
Similar thing happened last Sat. so we headed to the deep on Sun. and missed one decent mahi,no tuna or marlin. Came into the dog only to find out what a difference a day makes! Got 5 bites 4 tuners in the box, they WILL be back!
it sucked royally - at least the kids got to pull on some big sharks on 30# leader. the 1 tuna and 2 mahi were very cold with 300# of ice for the big "catch" we were gonna have....
did have 1 screamer on the deep squid all 80# right stuff that ripped off 400 yards never stopped b4 the line broke somewhere b4 the braid - would have like to have seen what it was - for now i'll call it a grander marlin ;)
