Hello There. I have the opportunity to come fish the Indian River/Rehoboth Bay Between the 6th and 13th for a couple days. I live in Annapolis, MD and will be towing an 18ft walkaround with a 125 Merc. I run her very often in the Chesapeake Bay, mostly looking for Rockfish, although will sometime bottom fish for perch/spot/croaker or chunk for blues. I am looking for any and all advice on types of fish I can catch over there (guessing its about the same as the Ches Bay), tactics needed to catch them, any hot spots that always produce well, bait choices, jigs, etc.
I am familiar with many different tactics of fishing... Trolling, jigging, topwater, livelining, chumming, etc. Any advice would be much appreciated!!!
Forgot to mention, I would also be willing to splash in the Delaware Bay if the fishing/chances will be better. I would rather head over there knowing how to fish, and what tackle/bait to take rather than taking it all and spending a day watching others and talking to bait shops. I will only get to stay 2-3 days, max! Thanks again. Mike
We pretty much focus on drifting with flounder rigs and live minnow and squid strips -- a flounder sandwhich. Don't go into IRI and start trolling, there is too much of a tidal rip and you will p*** off everyone else that is drifting. Running through the inlet on a flat day in an 18' boat should be no problem, but it can get hairy if the tide and wind start moving things. I have a 24' Albemarle and have at times wished I had more boat. You can go out on a flat day and come back to a little more sporty situatiomn in the inlet, so talk to some folks down there and watch the inlet a bit.
