HDS issue/question

OK here's my set up.....
HDS-5X sonar unit, HDS-5M GPS unit and a newly acquired LSS-1 structure scan.
the 2 HDS units are side by side on my console to provide 2 5" displays
i have everything hooked up and it is schweeeet!
i love the added definition and options.
one of the best features is the ability to back track on the side scan screen and place the cursor over a piece of structure you have passed and mark a waypoint to it....
now my problem....
when i have the side/down scan displayed on my 5X sonar unit it will not allow me to save the waypoint.
i get a pop up window that says something like "this operation is not available from this position"
however, if i move the side/down display to my 5M GPS unit is will let me save the point.

i have the most current 4.0___.59 software update and everything is connected properly through the LSS-1 module.

is there a way that i will be able to save these points on my 5X?
i want to be able to leave my chart up and have the side/down display too.

any help/suggestion is appreciated

the new update has alot of bugs.i had to reload the older update.lowrance is aware so report your problem also.

I am guessing you do not have an NMEA2000 network between the units? The 5x needs a GPS position on the network in order to save a waypoint. GPS position data does not share via Ethernet, only NMEA2000 or NMEA0183. The reason you can save it on the 5m is that you have a position reference from the internal antenna in the 5m. The GPS antenna can be shared to the 5x if you have a NMEA2000 network linking the two units.

Ken's post confirms my fears. i have only the ethernet network between the units & structure scan module.
i bought a 5X & 5M, instead of 2 full featured units, the fall prior to the release of the structure scan units to save some bucks but it will now cost me to correct the shortcomings of the units.

just called Lowrance and they say that even the NMEA2000 will not allow me to save wayponts on the 5X unit.
the NMEA2000 will share some GPS data to the 5X unit but only time, date, etc.

i will have to upgrade my 5X to a full featured HDS-5 unit.

anyone have any interest in a 5X unit?
