Default What preparation are you taking for this hurricane event?

Since we may lose power I moved the motor home up close to the barn to supply AC power there if I need it.
I have another genset for the house that I started up and checked.
Lined 5 gallon buckets along the barn roofline to collect water in case we need it to flush the toilets.
    Hunted up a couple flashlights.
Secured the trash cans and other outside items.
Repaired a section of rain gutter over the barn door.
Made sure the plugs were removed from my boats so the rain could drain from them.
Beer and food was taken care of a couple days ago.

Gotta get some necks and prep them for crabbing later next week.
Then I'll spend a while de-baiting and baiting 2400' of snood lines.
I may begin building another snood line after that job is completed.

I filled up my gas tanks and tied down a few things but aside from trying to calm down my wife and kids there's really not much else to do. It's amazing how much hype the media is giving this, I think it's way overdone. I did buy a couple extra bags of ice in case we lose power but most importantly I just got done steaming a bushel of crabs and iced down the beer!

I don't have a generator yet but I have a good inverter that I can tap into my boats battery supply if I need to run my coffee maker or something small. I've been holding off getting a generator because I really want to get one that runs off natural gas that I can supply from my main then connect directly into my circut breaker to power the essentials in the house but for the few times we really need it I just can't seem to justify doing it. We'll see, maybe this one will push me over the edge.

Hunker down and be safe everyone!

Secured all small lose items around yard.
Filled two 5 gallon gas containers and fired up generator to be sure it runs if needed.
Let about 6 inches of water out of pool.
Made sure the chain saws are running good.
    Bought 3 gallons of milk.
Getting ready to watch the race at Bristol if it is not rained out. I hope the storm is weak and all survive w/o any problems..........Gary

I checked with my neighbor to confirm that his 45,000 watt whole house generator was ready to rock. It was.
