MMMMMMM'm good eating! Thanks for the report and the pic.
Could not decide on where to go so ran north to the Washington Canyon. Water looked slightly better and slightly better weather than the Norfolk. Crewed up with Wally, Charlie, Doug G, and Doug O. 3-4 foot head seas all the way out but we slogged it to the Washington and the weather got only better from there. Talked with Keith on Teaser who boated 5 big YFT 50-80 pounders on the Washington so we worked that area but nada for us.
Winds layed out nice overnight. Minimal bait in the lights, not a good sign. Couple of nice gaffers circling the boat. One gets hooked up on the strip bait but I screw the pooch on the gaff and gone. Around 1 am line goes off from a skippy strip and fighting good. Doug O on the rod. Fish runs back to the boat and gets tail wrapped and in the process cuts/rips through his gill plate and that took the fight out of him. Pull him in the boat (w/o a gaff) get him measured and he is legal at 50 inches. Good thing too as he might not have survived if he released him.
Back on the troll at first light, drill the north wall, south wall nada. Squid marks everywhere, birds working here and there but no hits. 70-71 degree blended water. Work our way south to the 650 and still nada. Ended the day with not a single pull on the troll but at least we came home with some fresh sword steaks. Tried to raise those around the Norfolk but too far for my little boat. I did hear some fish were caught here and there but I think it was slow up and down the line.

You have got the knack for the swords. Way to go Mike.
Mike, we fished south and then North up to the Norfolk Canyon. Got one nice hit early on, but it spit the hook. Nice weed lines but no fish. My son, Capt. Ahab, did a nice job rigging and we were ready if they decided to hit but NADA. Glad you found a fish that would bite. Tight lines,

We may not have had a whole lot of action in the cockpit but it was still a great weekend on the water with good friends. Glad Doug O got the opportunity to add a new species to his list. Good to meet you Charlie and hope we get he chance to give em another go soon and always good fishin with you Doug G. Thanks for the trip Mike; rest up good tomorrow and safe travels this week.

Mike.........Nice sword! Thanks for the report. I'm going to stay inshore tomorrow. Crew is falling a little short and the reports I've gotten have not been that great.
Thanks for the report Mike. Good eats for you and the crew. All I got was an airplane ride, sorry I missed it.
Does look like he tried to cut his own head off.
