Default Quick OI report from Saturday 10/8

After much debate over the weather, we decided to fish OI on Saturday. The good news is that the weather was fishable, but unfortunately the fish didn't cooperate.

We fished from the 630ish to the 750 in 50-200 fthms. The fleet had been fishing a sliver of nice water in this area w/ great success over the last few days, but unfortunately it had disappated Friday and Friday night. Very slow for most out there and a skunk for us. Water was 68-72 and lots of scattered dead-looking grass. Saw a few decent bait marks, but did not mark any fish.

It sounded like the folks that ran to the hard break caught a few blackfin, scattered wahoo and a few dolphin. With the stiff NE wind and no hot bite reported, we stayed where we were with much of the fleet. Mostly, i wasn't excited to run 10 miles to get into the hot stream and get beat to death on what was already a fairly bumpy day.

Always a great time on the water w/ friends, but slow day on the catching for us. Look forward to getting out there again soon!

PS, was very happy w/ the wider deeper inlet and crack. Fishing out of OI on a NE wind has always had a big pucker factor for me, but the bar is in much better shape now and we did not have any issue getting out smoothly in the morning or coming back in the afternoon. Crack is also deep and wide and marked better than I can remember in years of fishing out of there.

Thanks for the report Ed. We were supposed to try Sun & Mon but bagged it. Looks like Mon ended up not blowing near as hard as they said. Fishing the tide when it's being bucked is always a treat on a NE but it sure looked like Mon fell out quite nice. I sure hope they can get the D Shoals Buoy fixed soon. I ended up doing a bunch of maintenance plus also am in the process of replacing a broken trim interceptor. (Like a trim tab but instead of a plate pushing down its a blade that drops down vertically). Volvo QL 450mm. They work when they work but have read there have also been some recent failures creeping in on the NET now that they have had the test of time. I am one of them. It also would of sucked not having trim last weekend so atleast all was not lost. I'll be ready by the next work/weather window.
I just got back last night and I'm already planning the next adventure.

Only the truly ate up understand the maddness.

    Bill.
