Why : At an ASMFC hearing regarding menhaden, Mr Brown gives testimony that he was opposed to any new regulations to restrict the harvest of menhaden in the Potomac River and that the real problem with reduced menhaden populations was actually the result of predation by catfish and largemouth bass. Additionally Brown opined that the solution was to increase the creel limit of largemouth bass and require fishermen to harvest these fish when they catch them and force bass fishermen to cease their policy of catch and release.

Mr Robert Brown introduced himself as Chairman of the Finfish Advisory Committee of the PRFC, Pres. of the St Mary's Watermans Assn, and a concerned waterman.

The Outdoor writer, James Drake , from which I have borrowed text here, in his column in The Enterprise,newspaper is now taking Mr Brown to task, as is Mr Ken Penrod , the Md DNR and a host of others.

It's quite true that Catfish,especially Big Blues can do a number on shad and the Md. DNR wants them all kept.However,this is obviously a game position play on his behalf.
