Default OT- Navy or SPY Swimming (Annapolis) - Need Advice for Daughter

My ten-year-old is a strong swimmer who is outpacing her age group on her current team and would like to upgrade to SPY or Navy. Her mom was an accomplished swimmer; that side of the family is filled with state and college champs (very unlike my side), so swimming will likely continue to be my daughter's primary sport. Unfortunately, neither of us are familiar with the local elite programs and would like to hit all of the due dilligence bases before encouraging her to go a particular route.

I realize that this is pretty OT, but I figured that a good way to find swimming families is to post where there are boating families. Please p-mail me if you have first-hand information that you can share.

    Thanks!
    Jeff

My Daughter swam many miles weekly, started with the summer swim team, then it was winter swim with the GBSA. Her friends that won heats every meet received scholarships. The competition gets tougher exponentially every year. It's great that your daughter has the interest and you will give her the opportunity to excel. My daughter actually developed a shoulder muscle issue and had to quit, her muscles were developing ahead of the bone structure. It happens when they are growing quickly. Mine doesn't swim much anymore, but she will be a Veterinarian in 2 years. Good luck and enjoy the torturously long swim meets. The last travel baseball games with my son ended in July, I miss them already.

(edited to add that like the travel baseball circles, folks are pretty closed mouth about the opportunities out there, you need to get out and talk to coaches and do the searching to find out where the competitive swimmers are working out. If you miss a registration deadline, she may be out for a whole year. Competition is tough and the parents are tougher, I thought I'd seen it all until I experienced High School baseball as a parent. Remember, above all, don't sit near the other parents during events if at all possible.)

My son swims for Patuxent (southern Calvert). When we go to the state meet, Severna Park is big there.

    That's a hint...

Thanks, guys. I appreciate the input.

Took me a while to find this thread. Not saying it doesn't belong here, but it's funny how a water sport thread is promptly moved while threads about auto detailing and such stay on the main board. Oh well..... It's sort of like the speeder complaining that faster speeders weren't pulled over.
