    Default Buck Tarsal Glands

Does anyone else use tarsal glands on bucks for scent? If so, when do you normally use them? I shot a buck this past weekend and would like to give these things a try but I feel like this would be a better scent during the pre-rut. Any info will help.

    Thanks and good huntin everyone!

you ever take a male dog that still has his testicles for a walk?? He stops and pees on everything that has any scent of another dog on it...Bucks are no different. right now they are competing for every doe they can....not saying a small buck will come in looking for a fight, but if he smells another buck in his bedroom, he will come in and try to leave his scent as well. If there is a dominant buck in the area and he smells the tarsal glands of another buck during peak rut? Lock on and get ready!!!

Tie a string around them and drag them right to your stand and then hang them on a tree close by. It works...............Gary

They work really well, and sometimes even better when used in a different area then first harvested from.

I always carry powder free rubber gloves to remove the glands and put them in a ziplock bad. I never touch them with my hand and sometimes drag them going to my stand. They work best for me when I hunt a totally separate area, any buck in the area around the kill will know the scent of all the other bucks and may not respond. But the strange smell in a new area will usually get a look or two.
