    Default Islamorada Charters/ Fishing

Group of 6 fishing club members are heading to Islamorada May 18-22. We will be chartering on the 19th and 20th. Wondering if anyone can recommend a good Captain. We are looking to do some offshore and reef fishing. Not sure if the gulf side will possible on a 6 person charter. Just looking to mix things up as we fished Lauderdale last year and two days of constant bontio got old real quick. Also how is the fishing in mid may down there. Thanks in advance for any advice. Plus we like to fish with capatains that let us participate a little more then a mate handing me the rod and telling me to reel the fish in.

there are a lot of very good captains down there. I would recommend blue chip too out of whale harbor and Kalex out of bud and mary's. as for 6 people 4 fishing in the gulf. I would call some of the captains at robbie's marina. or bud and mary's marina. I have personally never fished the gulf. weather conditions d and tides dictate where the guy will take you that day.they may suggest fishing the reef instead. I tried to go to the gulf 1 day last february the guide suggested us to go patch reef fishing . we had 1 of the best days fishing I ever had.

Usually, there's a good Mahi bite going on at that time off Islamorada and there's always some nice amberjack on the hump. Those 2 species would be a sure thing at that time.those Amberjacks can wear you out.2 each and you'll be happy to go Ltg for Mahi.

Thanks for the replies. We are fishing out of Bud n' Mary's. One day Backcountry and one day offshore. We are also staying in their hotel rooms at the marina. They were great to deal with on the phone and were a huge help to set up the trip we wanted. Hopefully the fishing/accomidations experience is equally as good. I will post a report in May as I like to give credit where it's due.

Captain John Outen is great. Fished with him 2 days last May, half day on the reef and full day offshore. Caught all the fish we wanted and had a blast. Tore up the dolphin and blackfin tuna! Those tuna were a blast. He owns the Pretty Work and the That's Right, fished on both. We had a grill at our place and cooked them up ourselves. Love the Keys!
