Default Why not eeling in the Northern Neck area of bay?

I always here of great eeling reports at the cbbt but never any in our neck of the woods. does it not work here or do most people troll out of habit? It might be that there are so many trollers in the good spots it would be impossible to set up a drift.

    Default Thinking the same thing...

I'm planning on trying this in the river this friday. As long a theres some current and the wind is somewhat parallel to it, I should be able to get a good drift. I am going to look for good marks in deep water and jig while lines drift.

My observations/opinion only. The guys eeling at the CBBT mainly anchor and fish the bridge structure, rocks, pilings, etc. Some also eel at the concrete ships which is incredible structure. These structures have lots and lots if different baits that attrach the rockfish. The NNK area does not have this same structure area's, its more wide open. Thats my 2 cents

if your going to eel you need to be near the ligthhouse of wolftrap or smith point but you must not get to close i would set up about 200 yards with the current towards the structure and let my lines drift back toward it I have seen so mayland guys do this seems to work ok chris

I've had some success at the Norris bridge but large fish are unusual there.

We use to eel at the old 36 a at cape chares,no real structure just open water at the channels edge ,used big bobbers with some set 50 ft above hook ,eel always try to swim to the bottom. also circle hooks work perfect fish set the hook every time.
