How to build your own planer boards

I'am planning on building me some planer boards and I found a drawing on down time charters for a 3 board planer board. I have a bunch of 1/2 " starboard ,do you think this would work instead of the #1 pine or redwood?Any help or tips would be very helpfull.

Starboard will work - just be sure you paint it orange as white is tough to see on a choppy ( white caps ) day.

Some of the plastic woods flex so a third rod might be needed in the middle to stiffen them.

I use a drip of Loc Tite on the nuts so they do not loosen.

Capt. Tuma used my plans - only change I've made is to center the eyebolt at 23 inches instead of 23 1/2.
