Hi all,
I will be escaping the frigid Mid-Atlantic in mid January by visiting the Sarasota area. While there, I would like to spend some time fishing. Can anyone please recommend both places to fish from shore and what equipment and techniques to use? I have a surf rod that I use when I fish in the surf in the Outer Banks of N.C., but wasn't sure if that would be overkill fishing in the gulf. As a Chesapeake Bay fisherman, most of my fishing experience has been from a boat, so surf fishing is somewhat foreign to me.
