I recently picked up a Diawa Saltist 30. Great beginner conventional right out of the box. Even I haven't blown it up yet. 17" hi viz mono.
Merry Christmas ! Santa was good to me. New 12ft St Croix. only thing is it's a conventional. I have only used spinning reels. I think i'll give it a try. What reel do you suggest? and then line? Thnks!![]()

Thanks, Thats what my research so far has pointed me to. Probily should stick with mono as a beginner also right
Where do you plan to fish??
Live in Maryland, fish Ocean City and Assateague. use to come to Hatteras 3 to 4 times a year but latley try to get dowm either spring or fall. Thinking about heading up north this year? Usually target biger fish. been surf fishing for 25 years.
I have the Daiwa Sealine- X 30SHA. Another great beginner reel. Holds plenty of line and has removable brakes. I spool mine with 20# mono and 50# flouro shock. I don't care how good you get, you're gonna get a cluster f#%k. Buy a big spool and don't leave home without it. Good luck.
Tight Lines !!
John
