That's cool, very rare to see them in action! I saw a couple this year in Round Bay.. circling over St Helena Island.
Took the dog for a walk along the Severn Run enviromental area trails at the head waters of the river.
There is a long exposed sand bar where the run and river meets and saw a mature bald eagle flying. Got lucky enough to see it drop low and snag a small fish - not sure what species.
Great to see a bald eagle. Watched it fly towards Indian Landing - looks like a nest where river turns forms a 90* bend.
The storms this September really dug a channel - water is 3-5 feet deep where used to be around a foot deep.
The sand bar we walked on was never there - next trip I plan to take a fishing rod.
What could be more mundane than dying of old age or of natural causes when there is death by misadventure to be pursued ? Skip

I saw a bald eagle at the cove behind Manresa twice during December. I don't know if it is a resident or not. I think it would great to see an eagle swoop down and catch a fish.

Great shot Brian! Glad to see them making a comeback in the area! We live just around the cove from Eagles Nest Point. It would be nice to see them nesting there again! One morning about 5 years ago I opened the blinds to the bedroom in the morning and there was a huge eagle sitting on a branch 12 feet from my window. I ran and got the camera went to take a picture and discovered the memory card was in my wifes's purse. By the time I found it and came back the eagle was gone. It would have been an awesom shot!
I have seen Eagles on the eastern shore as well off of Irish Creek.
Over the past five months, I have fished the Severn seven times both from a boat and on the bank. Each of those times I have seen at least one bald eagle. We have them on Deep Creek (Magothy), too. No matter how many times I see them, I never cease to marvel at these splendid birds. If someone 25 years ago told me that would someday be almost guarunteed a bald eagle sighting each fishing trip, I would not have believed them.
BTW, many folks on the river may be seeing eagles without recognizing them. Remember that gulls (and Osprey in the spring/summer) have wings that are crooked in the middle. Vultures have broad, straight wings, but they bend upwards in a "v" shape. Eagles have broad, straight wings, but they are held out straight, not in an upward "v." That can help you recognize them from a distance, even if you can't make out the white head and tail (or if it's a juvie without the white head or tail).
A real treat would be to see a golden eagle! Several times I thought I saw one, only for it to turn out to be a juvie bald. But goldens are around and have been verified in AA County. You can Google up the subtle marking differences between a golden and juvie bald.
