Starrett?
On Monday night - 16th at 7:30 , Broadneck MSSA chapter has a guest speaker who fishes for Crappie on Potomac.
He uses long rods 12 to 16 feet long. No reel - they are like pole fishing. The rods telescope down to 4-5 feet for storage.
I'm thinking they will be perfect to get a lure back under certain docks / boat houses on the Severn that hold huge Perch.
Figure can jig lure up / down until a Perch hits.
The price is $1.00 per foot - no lie , that is how they are sold.
Location is American Legion Post #175 on Manhatten Beach Rd.
Open to public and beer prices are low.

This is real popular down south. My Dad came up to visit last summer and I took him Perch fishing.. he asked me why I hadn't tried this yet. The big perch like the shade on the hot summer days. Catch yourself out on a low tide with an incoming and run one of these under a pier.. with one of Woody's glo-jigs. It would also be perfect for a high tide back in the creeks where the water is further up into the bank structure. Instead of casting to the tree.. you can drop it in the tree or even behind it. There were several times this last summer where I unhooked a fish, dropped the glo-jig in the water, and my movement in the boat triggered another strike.. and I would have to scramble to grab my rod.
$1 a foot is cheap.. I may come and get a couple of these!
Skip, this is the perfect way for you to do it. It's called spider rigging. Guys troll 16 of these things trying to locate schools of crappie.. haha

Woody,
Hope you are healing well.......thanks for that tip.

I picked up one of these from Capt Starrett at the Kent Island Flea Market Saturday morning. It's a 13 footer. Seems to be made well. He recommended 40lb braid just a bit longer than the length of the pole. I can't wait to get a fat perch on the end of it this spring!
I would like to attend & listen to Capt Mike, but I'll be out on the road Monday night. Capt Mike is one of my favorite people to talk fishing with. I used to sell flies & lures at the PSG show for many years, and always enjoyed talking with him! Great guy & super fishing knowledge! I really enjoy his fishing reports & pics each year too!
My father grew up in NC, and many of the old timers in the area he was from fished this way, including my grandfather, but most of them used long bamboo poles.
I have a 12 ft noodle spinning rod I like to jig with, but never tried it with more than one rod.
In MD, you do have to be careful about using this method in freshwater, since MD regs limit you to only 3 rods per person. In tidalwater there is no limit on the number of rods, but does limit the number of hooks to 2. I'm sure Capt Mike would cover all that!
