I remember that winter and thinking wow I bet the bugs will not be so bad the next summer.
I was wrong, there were just as bad as always. I guess they know to just borrow deeper!

I remember that the wind chill was below 0f for 40 straight days. Many cold hardy trees died because the ground froze and the constant wind dried up the trees because they couldn't absorb any moisture from the frozen ground. My son ran over a small pear tree in our yard with his sled and it snapped like a dry twig instead of bending.A car dealership in Belair Md. couldn't get their doors open because the frozen ground heaved up the foundation and jammed the door.I tried to turn on an outdoor spigot and it was so frozen,it snapped off in my hand.

Time to go shallow water oystering!
If you don't go, you won't know and you gotta have bait in the water!

Know there must be a reason for the extra low tides that occur a few times each winter.

Great time to take a camera and take photos of normally submerged trees , logs , rockpiles , etc.

More related to fishing but crabs also will relate to structure.

One reason there is often a sweet spot on a long trotline. Might be a gully , mud hump , old piling , etc that draws crabs to that area.
What could be more mundane than dying of old age or of natural causes when there is death by misadventure to be pursued ? Skip

Sweet Momma... where is this if you don't mind me asking? Where the high tides extra low too?

I just check the tidal graphs for Annapolis over the past day or two and they didn't show anything extreme. Those tides are crazy low!!!

    Oh........... pics were taken mid-January.

    Howard,

Crabbermanjl posts many photos and trip reports from his pier throughout the season so it would be spot burning if he revealed the general location. I love the reports and I hope he keeps his location quiet so he feels free to keep posting.

The timely pier crabbing reports are outstanding and they bring back some very vivid childhood memories for me. I loved that kind of crabbing as a child and in my childhood I did a lot of it in the Bay's tribs and near Ocean City back in the bay at waterside cottages my parents rented for summer vacation. I did not start trotline crabbing until I was an adult in my mid 20s.

I am so ready for the crabbing to start this spring!
