The concrete ships are very close to the ramp( 1/3mi.).You shouldn't have any trouble there even in some wind.
Planning on making a long distance run to Kiptopeke this spring.
I've got a Tarpon 120 that I use on big lakes and rivers.
My question - is 12' adequate for that water?

Fishing can be anything you want it to be

The Kipto ships are only about 1/4 mile off of the ramp/launch site and they act as a breakwater ........ east/west winds give the calmest ......... 20+ north winds will give 1-2 + seas behind the ships ......... south a little less ..........
Your 12 ft should be fine .....
"Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after." By Henry David Thoreau.
There's not too many fish at the ships in the spring unless you like croaker and small floudner. A little further off you have the black drum and the reds are on the shoals near the bridge and islands. Big reds that will pull any black backwards up to Port Deposit.
So are the CBBT islands out of the question? Or can I find a closer launch?

I have fished the ships and the first island plenty of times in my T120. The guy that sold it to me said that he had actually taken all day and gone to the third island and back.
And there are togs at the ships in the spring....
Hi Chip:
Let me know when you want to fish the ships. We can stay in Crisfield and head down in the morning. I've got an ocean kayak and malibu already down there. I've fished the ships a number of times -- like the previous post said, the boats are in close an easy paddle. While the ships offer some protection from the wind, it can get a little dicey -- especially when the current is running. Never fished early in the spring -- more late spring and summer, but I'm willing to go out anytime.

What about fishing for Tog at the ships in the spring? Shouldn't they be there once the water temps get above 43F or so?
