Default Sunday Hunting Coming to Va. ??

Virginia: Sunday Hunting Legislation Passes Senate Committee!Yesterday in the General Assembly Building, the Senate Agriculture, Conservation and Natural Resources Committee considered four similar Sunday hunting bills. The committee rolled these four bills into Senate Bill 464 and then passed it by a vote of 11 to 4. This legislation will now be sent to the full state Senate for its consideration.

Senate Bill 464, sponsored by state Senator Ralph Northram (D-6), was amended by the sponsor to repeal the ban on Sunday hunting on private property and public waters and prohibit the hunting of deer with dogs on Sundays

Currently, Virginia is one of only six states in the country that strictly bans hunting on Sundays. This prohibition harms Virginia’s economy and threatens the very future of our hunting heritage by discouraging hunter recruitment and retention. It is time that the decision on this hunting policy, like virtually all others, be delegated to the Virginia Board of Game and Inland Fisheries.

At a time when the economy is struggling and too many Virginians are out of work, legislators must not continue to refuse the enormous economic benefits associated with allowing hunting on Sundays. Comprehensive research from the National Shooting Sports Foundation shows that allowing hunting on Sundays would generate a total annual economic impact estimated at $296 million and create 3,927 jobs. All of this would be spurred by simply eliminating words from state statute books (the current prohibition), not spending taxpayer dollars on some pie-in-the-sky scheme.

At this time a Senate floor vote has yet to be scheduled but is expected early next week for Senate Bill 464, but please continue to check your e-mail and www.NRAILA.org for future updates.

Here is a link to contact your State Delegate and Senator and let them know you support the repeal of the Sunday Hunting Ban. Let your voice be heard and let them know who votes them into office.

Possible vote coming up on the Senate floor this Thursday. Contact your State Senator and ask them to vote "YES". Also remind them that this is more than just a hunting issue, it's also a property rights issue as this bill "allows" property owners to decide what activities they allow to go on, on their land. Just because the bill allows hunting on Sundays doesn't mean a property own will, it just leave the choice up to them. Plus, it doesn't allow dog hunting for deer, so that should reduce the trespass issue.

The issue on the deer houndsman and SH has nothing to do with tresspassing. Its an agenda put in place by HSUS, FB, and other anti hunting groups. VDHA is just dumb enough to stand with them.

I don't see anything unreasonable with the bill. Man, after all these years, this would be something.....

Now that it's passed the Senate, we need to contact our Delegates and let them know how we feel. Go to my earlier post and click on the link to send them an e-mail stating your support. If you write or call them yourself, make sure you let them know you feel that this is more than just a hunting issue and a property rights issue as well. We still have a a long road ahead of us as the House has always been against this issue in the past and it's never made it out of committee.
