Not sure how long Md has offered a crab award - excuse me if this is old news.

Saw in the 2012 Md Fishing guide you get with a license - on page # 57. Under Chesapeake Bay division is Blue Crab.

That is a true trophy size crab.

Md offers an award for crabs that are 9 inches or bigger. This award enters you into the FREE Md Fishing Challenge.

That is a cool deal - you and every one you can cram into the car / truck / van gets into the Md Seafood Festival for FREE . It is in mid September. Think tickets are around $10.00 per person.

All sorts of prizes are given out - fishing tackle , charter trips , even a new boat. Not bad for catching a big ole crab.

I thought it was 11 inches last year. I remember reading it and thinking to myself "there is no f -ing way!" I definitley caught a couple close to 9 last year though. I must have read it wrong. I guess I will try and take a couple to Jim over at Marty's and get entered next summer. More motivation to get out crabbing early. Also having a rear steering station put on my bigger boat, so I can crab and get some shade should get me moving to.

They all seem like Monster's until you measure them. I have had numerous 8+ And a 8-7/8" almost 9. Guarantee i'll get one this year....Just a matter of time, Every day I will be pulling them out! August seems to be the month with the big ones... We'll see though.......
