    Default The Last day

Went out this morning for the last goose hunt of the season. We were able to shoot 4 geese and a groundhog. You know it's too warm when the groundhogs start working your decoy spread! Used those birds and a few from the other day to make up about 9lbs. of breakfast sausage. It will be a long wait till next season.

Tough year and I was honestly ready for it to be over. Hopefully next year brings some colder weather and an earlier migration. Ready to start wetting some lines.

My worst season ever, grand total 2 mallards, 1 black and 1 goose. That's out of 7 trips this season.

Ditto only 2 duxs this year A couple of years ago a friend shot a goose and it sailed across the pond and started running in the adjacent pasture- when he went after it there was a blood trail into a groundhog hole ,never did get that goose !

The last two weeks of the season finally started getting good for me. Sorry to see it go. It's on to fishing for me then crabbing and then back to hunting. I hunted all day Saturday for ducks and geese then fished yesterday afternoon for yellow perch.

Didnt have a bad day to end the season. Was a vey slow season for sure, but only had 5 skunk days. Most however were 1 or 2 bird days. Ended the season with zero geese and 35 ducks. I managed to scratch a pair of baldpates for the wall the morning of the last day. Didnt fill my swan tag which was a dissapointment. Unfortunately my best shot of the year was made on that nasty saw bill.

This is a pic from the am hunt.

Geese are open till March around me. I've seen enormous flocks flying south in the evenings since around early January right near the demarcation line between "resident” and “migratory” in Montgomery Count MD. Just don’t have a field to hunt over there.
