Just my opinion and not trying to ruffle any scales but unless they are going to stop commercial fishing I hope this doesn't happen. Let it end on Dec. 31. I wouldn't mind seeing catch and release from Jan 1 to April 1 in the 2 mile limit on the coast. It is time to preserve the Rockfish not make it extinct. For that matter lets sign a petition for the menhaden. Have a nice day. Long live the rock fish.

I'm all for equalizing the bay season with the ocean season, along with limits. A breeding size fish is exactly that - and whether it is caught in May, or in December, shouldn't matter. Thanks for posting the info on the petition.

Opening the season even more would be really hard on the fish stocks. This January in the ocean season the charters and rec's may have caught as much as the entire Va bay season for the whole year. We have had an incredible fall and January and asking for even more now seems greedy. Since the quota for commercial and rec's are equal, the commercial guys would want an increase as well. Does it make sense to ask for more in a year where fishing has been so great. I know there are not a lot of reports from Jan on this forum, but if you read the Va forum you will see that the rec's and charters hammered the big fish all January. I know because was there in January.

Just my opinion and I won't argue here.
