I have done alot of surf fishing in Texas, driving on the beach, bonfires, camping out right were the truck sits, all for free. Why can't the outer banks be like that? Maybe if we all quit working and go on welfare we can use foodstamps to get to hatteras inlet.

While I think the NPS sucks for caving in to Audobon, your solution would get rather expensive quickly I'm afraid.

I say we find an extremely rare species of bird and have it nest on the Audubon main HQ. Then the feds would have to shut down the HQ so the bird can do its business.

That's not a bad idea. When US Supreme Court Justice David Souter was part of a 5-4 majority upholding the condemnation of a parcel of private property for the expressed purpose of transferring it to another private party as a part of an urban development plan better serving the "public interest", moves were initiated to condemn his personal residence, a small farm in New Hampshire, and convert it into a hotel, to be named "The Lost Liberty Inn". The Supreme Court decision allowed eviction of the resident and transfer of the property in question. The developer/recipient failed to secure financing, and now the property, once the residence of a Mrs Kelo, is a landfill. Souter's residence remains in his hands. Many states have enacted legislation since the 2005 Kelo decision prohibiting state and local governments from engaging in such madness.

Maybe all of us with 4x4's go on the beach the last day 3/15 as a protest? Infuse the local economy for at least that day. Been going there since the days of split rims. Shame it all comes to this. Birds and turtles are fine. Thinking most of them are unemployed and very few rent houses or eat out. Maybe a 4 wheel drive Prius with a lift kit next?
