Stonesifer - What Brandon said. One other thing Brandon didn’t mention is that during the spring, summer, and fall there are 1000s+ of other places to fish for stripers in the Bay, and expect to do well. There are even more if you include other saltwater species and as well as all freshwater areas. Plenty of places for fishermen to spread out. But from late December through February during normal cold winters (not the one we are having now) the number of productive places to fish for stripers shrink to just a couple dozen, if that. During really cold winters when ice coverage is an issue the numbers of places to fish for stripers drops to just a handful, and most of them are WWDs. Most WWDs can handle only a few boats, some can handle a few more, but that’s only if ever one plays nice.

So, as you might expect, WWD fishermen don’t like to advertise that fish are biting at there favorite WWD. Just a couple more boats that would not otherwise be there can dramatically affect your catch.

Is that true? Thought that would be the time of year where they don't want the reactor down (winter). Plannin an early March adventure, and that was on my list. Would greatly appreciate info.

HJS- thank you for your response, it answered my question the best

Terps- I mostly troll because I don't fish the bay enough to post reliable info and am normally a guest on other people's boats, but even I knew of the warm water discharge. I was only asking the reason and HJS and Brandon provided the answers.

Sorry if any feathers were ruffled

It can be a dangerous place to fish even without traffic in the wash. Ive had my old wooden charter boat's spun around like a aluminum john boat, but it can a fun place to fish. like any other place it take's a little time to learn the area. You don't have to be in the wash to catch, there's place's in the south and north side and even behind the outlet. Oh yeah, it's about as secret as the bay bridge.
