One other thing Brandon didn’t mention is that during the spring, summer, and fall there are 1000s+ of other places to fish for stripers in the Bay, and expect to do well. There are even more if you include other saltwater species and as well as all freshwater areas. Plenty of places for fishermen to spread out. But from late December through February during normal cold winters (not the one we are having now) the number of productive places to fish for stripers shrink to just a couple dozen, if that. During really cold winters when ice coverage is an issue the numbers of places to fish for stripers drops to just a handful, and most of them are WWDs. Most WWDs can handle only a few boats, some can handle a few more, but that’s only if ever one plays nice.
So, as you might expect, WWD fishermen don’t like to advertise that fish are biting at there favorite WWD. Just a couple more boats that would not otherwise be there can dramatically affect your catch.
