Can't believe these comments about those benevolent protective authorities, it must be fair, they say it is . Here's a link to explaining this entire sad Agenda 21 land grab, and the fight to stop it. http://preservebeachaccess.org/
X3 - to that point, I'm afraid to see what the taxes will end up being in MD.....

Cracks me up how some around here rationalize the fees and purpose of a program like what's happening on the Outer Banks.
Wonder what those same people would say if similar BS was put into place on the Chesapeake Bay. For starters, only a certain amount of boats allowed out of any and all DESIGNATED access points. Imagine that. Boat owners still arriving for a day's fishing/recreation being told they can't go out because some arbitrary limit of boats in the water has been reached, and they'll have to wait until another boat leaves the water before they can take their turn. Imagine being told you can't form a circle of boats around a school of fish, or anchor one boat behind the other, or raft up (double park so to speak). Yeauh, go ahead, keep trying to justify how anybody should "accept" what just happened on the Outer Banks, in the areas specified by these new rules and regs.
I think some folks, specifically here in Md, are so used to fees and taxes for everything they do and use they can't understand why what's happening in Hatteras is so upsetting. It's interesting to read the difference in opinion between this board and the Va board.
I understand your point but a large reason the tourism has dropped off in Hatteras is due to beach closures. People who go down to 4x4, surf and fish are not going to go down when NPS shows up and shuts the beaches down as they please. All for a bird. Now $50/120 fee will not be used for the people of Hatteras. It will be used to build and enforce the new policy. The only reason the fee is put into effect is save a bird. The feds caved into the tree huggers for Ny( I believe). It's the same way with the inlet cut by Irene. They didn't repair the breach because the tree huggers filed a law suit because they say it's a natural course of nature. Now there is a temp/permanent bridge. It's fine you don't mind paying a fee to us a beach that was givin to the parks in the understanding it would remain free and open for use, but it sure bothers me.
The park service closes the beaches based upon the recommendation of the environmental groups in relation to the Birds breading and nesting. The NPS keeps a list of the closures on thier website. Last summer the point opened the day I got down there....August 6th. What ashame for the folks who vacationed in July. It's crazy to think the point was closed in prime season. My kids love it there. We swim for conch shells and fish. The house I rented this year is the third to last house on the south end of the Island. I rented this to be close to the Hatteras inlet for fishing and 4x4 but they could close the beach and ruin that. The whole thing is a mess and ashame. But I guess at this point....it is what it is, and yeah I will probably pay the fee. I just worry about the lines to get the permit and watch the video.
I'm still bitter over the Ravens......but the Gmen are hot. Plus I hate Brady! Enjoy!
