Thumbs down OI Wed Feb 1st SKUNKED

Started in the Gulfs edge down on the 380. 73 degrees with 4 knt's of tide. Tide knocked the rough SW seas down but made the troll up the line mighty fast. Endless shagg fest with only one big boil on a bait around the 480 to show for. Met up with the Hooker boat on the 540 where we both spent the rest of our day searching hard between constant grass shagging. Around noon we crossed over into the cooler green water north of the Point after switching out to a Bluefin spread. Without the tide to knock the wind waves down it was snotty but still doable. Gave our best but in the end never lost the Skunkey. Tom Krause did manage 2 yellowfin bites in the cooler 69 degree water & also had a single BFT hookup but it came unglued early on in 57fathoms near the Tuna hole.Pretty work Tom!!! His yellowfin bites were along the 100 while working up to the line. We pretty much fished that same stuff but never had a sniff. We were supposed to be back at it today but fore-casted winds offshore had gotten worse plus our lack of bites yesterday sealed the deal.

If I had to guess, I think that the water has spread out so much that it's just the needle in the haystack deal right now for the cool water & the tide & grass is what killed our Yellowfin fishing along the hot side. Tom said last Saturday was all you wanted in the hot from 500-560 & that is pretty much where they have been showing up so I'm sure they will be back soon enough. North wind shift will help. Personally a hate fishing SW for Tuna. Never seem to do as well if it's been going for long. NE light enough to fish, game on!

Anyways good luck out there if you go this weekend. The cool thing about this time of the year is every day is a different with conditions changing so fast & if you find them they are hungry. Those BFT are around, they will get back concentrated if they aren't right now. Who knows those things could of been just north of where we gave up. Thats where the best of it was a few weeks back. 700-750.
I just got back last night and I'm already planning the next adventure.

Only the truly ate up understand the maddness.

    Bill.
