    Default Yp on the Susky

Headed up to fish for the YP yesterday and I knew things would be slow but the weather could not have been nicer. Got to the Havre de Grace town ramp at 10 am and launched the boat. Got over to the Perryville side and saw a few anglers catching some small ones. As the day warmed people came out but the fishing remained slow. Water was stained and the water temp was 39.6. Caught mostly small ones during the low tide and maybe one keeper. Very small tube jigs was the best lure that produced some very small YP. Rick

The yellow perch fishing hasn't been what it was in recent years past. Lotsa dinks but not too many over 10 or 11 inches. Me and Joe spoke w/a couple local watermen and they aren't doing that great either. Some think all the rain this spring silted in some prime habitat while others think the weather has just been too warm. Who knows? Maybe its a little of both. Still. there are perch around and with the warm conditions, its a waste not to go out and fish. There's time for the fishing to improve and every day is different so its worth a try.

Right on Timbo, You need to go when you can. We fished yesterday and got a chance to meet Tidewater, nice boat guy. We fouind one little batch of fish in the Susky and managed to take home a meal for a change. most keepers were 9 to 10 inches. Had to work hard for them. All fish caught on small rubber stuff . Many little ones,Four of the small fish were females. The fish we caught were in shallow. tight lines guys AL

Look out guys... I fished the Elk today just looking and had a few good ones on out going water at a creek mouth... It wouldn't happen this early would it??? Water temps 44 degrees where the catching was done. I hope the stripers swim north fast!

    Very interesting!

I think it is possible to see an early start to yellow perch spawning or at least fish staging further upstream into the tribs given the weather pattern--the days are getting longer and the water warmed up. The temp in the tribs can warm up a lot during warm sunny weather.

Also, the Potomac at Little Falls is at moderate flow and it was 44 degrees today and well into the 40s the past three days. This is perfect seasonal timing and water temps to target Potomac walleye.

Yea!... Now you are talking and have my attention! Our Walleye Bite up here in the Susky usually doesn't start untill first week of march... the cold water from above makes in slow to warm...

River is 40* at Harrisburg right now on USGS station.

I'm thinking of trying for some eyes but don't know whether to try below the dam, at the mouth of Deer Creek or maybe in the deeper water off of Port/Lapidum. I'm thinking the deeper water may be the best bet right now.

JERRY ,Since the water has setteled down somwhatI/d be trying the deeper water for the eyes. Seems thats where they stage until the water warms up.The walleye bite up here in the Harrisburg area has been none existent. The worse I/v seen in years. Thats why I/m fishing down in Maryland . The perch bite right now has also been slow. The perch I cleaned yesterday , the femals roe was not near ripen. That doesn/t mean that they can/t stage for the spawn in spawning areas already. My 2 cents worth, who knows. AL
