good luck and let us know how you do! was down last saturday and looking to go again real soon. cant make it happen this weekend though...
I'm watching the WX like a HAWK and if the Fishing Gods is willing, I will be departing Teach's nice and early.
Im hoping to jig some blackfins.
good luck and let us know how you do! was down last saturday and looking to go again real soon. cant make it happen this weekend though...
Team Codfather (26' Hydra) will be going also. We will launch from Villiage Marina and head to 230 and cover our usual spots from there. We can be reached on channel 68. We will mix it up but will be mostly jigging.
Suncoug,
I will also be on 68 (south Bound, 24 topaz), leaving out of teach's and heading to the 230. I hope to see you out there.
I'm on the fence. I'm relatively new, only about 2 dozen offshore trips (75% troll, 25% jig) under my belt. What's your take on the water temp difference between now & last Saturday over the 230 ? What do you anticipate today's big N winds will do to temps/stream ?
Sea state for tomorrow is right at my go/no go threshold (Proline 24 Walk - Fin Zen) so should my determining factor be water temp/sat shot this time of year ? Do you generally like to see the warmer water further west/over the 230 ?
Any thoughts, info, advice would be greatly appreciated.........
Mike11,
Im not totally sold on the WX tomorrow, the WX window seems to be very small tomorrow, but as of right now i will be at teachs around 4am.
The water over the 230rocks last saturday was a bit warmer.
From what i heard and see, the hard break that was there last week, has been blended, which make it a little more diffcult to find the fish. But the warm water is still there and the fish should be too.
If you decide to go tomorrow, call me or text me (757-604-4052) we can buddy up and burn these blackfins.
As far as winter Hatteras fishing goes, the weather looks pretty good. If you are not familiar with the inlet or worried about residual swells, I would go just a little later, when there is a plenty of light. North wind does tend to kick up the GS but from the forecast it looks pretty good. I expect we will have a very nice day.
230-280 Rocks usually hold a good bit fish and life this time of the year. Each day is different obviously but we usually catch something there. Looks like someone got into some nice gaffer dolphins yesterday, so it would be interesting to see what we might run into. The GS and sea temp pattern looks very different from previous years, so I am not sure what to expect.
BTW, we have found blackfins in cooler water also, so I wouldn't be too concerned about water temp.
Suncoug,
If you dont mind Im gonna hual you on the radio, after i clear the inlet, maybe we can buddy up...
We will be there on the Debra Leigh. Looking for the blacks and whatever else we may find. Anybody have the latest regs on the bottom species that may be available?
Thanks,
Ralph
