That is like the convenience fee you pay when ordering tickets online to an event. Who exactly is that convenient for!?
Maybe I missed a post on this one but just went online to renew my boat registration and was charged Registration fee: $37.00
Enhanced access fee: $1.50
Total Renewal Fee: $38.50
So Dept of Games and Fisheries is the only webiste I know that penalizes you now to do it online. Technically it would have been cheaper to write a check and mail it to them. Then they would have had the cost of a person handling checks and processing.
I would have thought it would be the other way - charge a fee for a check due to associated processing fees. Even DMV rewards you for doing things online and penalizes you if you dont do things online when you can.
Sounds like Games and Fisheries is making us pay for their website development......
As a side note - my Mom sent a check into Best Buy a few weeks ago for an extended warranty and they wouldn't accept checks as a form of payment. She had to use plastic. They said the processing fee's made them stop taking paper........

The convenience fee is true. Some organizations charge you a fee to cover the credit card fees they incure by processing your transaction and to maintain the internet site. Sending in a check does not incure an additional fee because they are already paying someone to do accounting and they are ussually the ones cashing your check. Been there, done that
Maryland charges a service fee to buy your license on line. Very convenient even though I live 12 minutes from Dnr.
Wait a minute . . . when you buy a saltwater license from a vendor there is a $2 fee that comes out of your license. If you are buying it directly from the state and there needs to be a user fee why doesn't it come out of what we pay?
With the freshwater license the fee is tacked onto the license fee (or at least $1 of it is)
Government run programs rarley make any sense. Profit, loss, doesn't matter, just have to justify their jobs.
tax, tax, tax
