    Spurgeon,
I have 2000 hours on 2003 3126 Cats in a 32 albemarle and they are doing great. The 3116's are a little underpowered and had issues. You also have to be careful with cummins in albemarles and Carolina classics, they require a lot of air and the engine rooms do not allow the cummins to breath well enough, so they burn up. i had heard that cummins will not even sell engines to Albemarle because of this. The only problem with the cat 3126 and 3116 are that the are throw away motors, they are not sleaved. I spoke to a charter captain that got 22,000 hours on a set of 3126 motors and said they were great. Also since there were a lot of soft block issues with both the 3116 and 3126 early models caterpillar has a 10 year 10,000 hour warranty on the motors.

If you are looking at Yanmar, they are excellent, efficient, light and also not sleaved, from what I have heard, expect about 6,000 hours on the engines before replacement.

    Spurgeon,
Sent you a PM with my contact info. I have owned two 32 Albemarle Express boats and would be happy to share my experiences with engines, boats, and manufacturer.

    spurgeon ,

If you are interested in a 28 Carolina Classic mine is for sell, has twin cummins 6b 330's. Can be seen on Virginia Beach Boats website as Scott is my broker. Boat is located in Wachapreague, VA. Have 22000lb trailer for winter storage, although you'll not want to tow very far.
    If interested bmail.

I have a 310 XF with Yanmar 370's. It's an awesome combination. The 370's are sleaved motors if that matters to you. The boat cruises at just under 30 kts at 3000 RMP burning 24 GPH. Max cruise RPM is 3150. Plenty of room in the engine compartment and more than enough power.

Not true about Cummins in Albemarle 32, Layton Boat Works retrofit Cummins 370 in those boats all the time and Cummins sign's off on the install.

Albemarles come with 4 huge blowers and two big vents. That should be more than enough air for any motors you choose. I would choose Cummins or Yanmar, both are excellent motors.

I passed on a boat that had Cats because the starboard motor overheated causing significant damage. They claim it had to do with something in the head. It took Caterpillar forever (several months) to get it fixed. Found another boat with Yanmars and have been very satisfied.
