Default Sushi Sportfishing 2012 - new 57 footer

I saw the post inquiring about Brian Porter's plans for 2012.

Yes it's true - Brian Porter and I will be running the new Sushi boat out of his new slip # C-3 at Sunset Marina in OC from June to September. The other 8 months we'll be running it out of my slip # 20 at Pirates Cove. Brian and I have fished together and been good friends for 15 years, and this is a blessing for us both. Many of you know Brian's a great fisherman and person who has a blast offshore and onshore, takes great care of his clients, and deserves a great ride.

The new Sushi boat is a 2012 Island Boat Works 57 footer. The deep-V hull is cold-molded Okume, Douglas Fir, f-glass (12 to 24 oz cloths), and West System epoxy with a massive stringer system built to handle high speeds and the latest V-12 engines. Power is twin C32 Cats with ZF gears and an estimated 38 knot cruise at 1950 rpm. Top end should be over 45 knots.

The salon will be set up specifically for offshore charter/hard-core fishing but with a focus on comfort and amenities, including reclining leather business-class seating with115 VAC plugs at each seat for personal electronics, solid teak flooring, sat DirecTV with NFL Sunday Ticket on a 60" LED TV, CD/iPod/DVD home theater system, wireless 2 MB/sec internet and phone through the sat system, Sub-Zero drawer frig and Viking microwave/convection oven. Down below will be a single freshwater head with sink, bunks for 6, bait freezer, and tackle storage. A 22kW Westerbeke D-NET genset will power the a/c's, tankless 14kW hot water heater, 300 gpd water maker, Headhunter pumps, ice makers, and other 230/115 VAC systems.

Up top will be a state-of-the art bridge with FLIR night vision, the latest nav/ff/radar/VHF/sat com systems, hydraulic Rupp riggers, electric teaser reels, LED deck lighting/nav lights, and solid teak flooring.

The cockpit will feature comfortable mezzanine seating with solid teak flooring on the mezz box, painted non-skid on the cockpit deck, integral livewells on both sides, all-stainless and teak fighting chair with 6-rod launcher, large transom fish box, full-length fish boxes on each side of the mezzanine to handle multiple GBFT or overflow smaller catch, salt and freshwater ice makers, chill plates to keep the ice longer in all 3 fish boxes, and teak cover boards.

Tackle is all top-notch Shimano hand-crank and Lindgren-Pitman electric reels on custom J&B rods including the new Talica 16II 2-speed jigging/whitey reels, Talica 50II troll/chunk reels, Stella spinning reels, and 130 Tiagras.

NC trips will include optional lodging in soundside, soundfront, or oceanfront homes of varying costs (cheap 3 bedroom beach box to luxury 8 bedroom with heated pool and hot tub) with personal in-home sushi chef dinners ($40/head plus drinks of choice) and golf packages also available.

OC trips will include long range options to the Hudson Canyon and others north of the Wilmington.

Multi-day Bahamas/Key West/Dry Tortugas trips are an option for late winter depending on the NC bluefin bite and client interest. I grew up doing these trips and they are an absolute blast with a mix of trolling and on-anchor bottom fishing with live bait.

The Sushi website will be updated soon to reflect these changes and the trips booked to date - for now we're busy working on the new boat 7 days a week. Please give Brian or me a call or email to book your trips on the new Sushi - should be a lot of fun and we appreciate your business and friendship!

PS - Anyone with mechanical/labor skills who wants to come help build the new boat on weekends or any other day will be given priority bookings, discounts, and split-cost "friends" trip opportunities, as well as free lodging here in the Outer Banks.

I am going to have to book the new Sushi just so I can ride out to the fishing grounds in a reclining leather business-class seat while watching DirecTV with NFL Sunday Ticket on a 60" LED TV.

I'm with you Mike. I might have to rethink my personal stance on chartering. I think I could enjoy that just fine.

I got tired of walking into the salon on the way to and from the grounds and seeing my people slumped over on each other's shoulder's, laying on the floor, etc., so I figure why can't a charter boat have seating like an airplane biz-class section and a home theater? Might also need the seatbelts at 38 knots...Attached are some recent exterior pics and a sistership - the Delta Dawn. Inside is top seacret unless you come down to help out.Click image for larger version.

    Charley,
Glad to see your plans coming together. I'd come to help, but you know where I am. Good luck!
