Default Stayed close to home today - Kayak Fishing

Been fishing the Susky for Perch lately and mixed results. Lots of fish but most on the small side. Decided to make a 15 minute ride to a local lake near home instead of the 1-1/4 hour ride to Perryville.

So I went fishing for Crappie today at Marsh Creek Lake. Brought my ultra-light rod ...rigged up with 6lb test mono and Shad Darts tipped with some minnows.

Thought I hooked the bottom ... Nope a 36" fat Musky!! Opted for the Kayak side release. Didn't want to flip that boy up on my lap after looking at those teeth.

Did manage a couple slab crappies, too (12+”).

Awesome report, a three foot muskie on ultralight gear from a yak in Feb, plus nice crappie--that is outstanding!!

I think you made a very good decision with the side release.....

That's a tiger too, they stopped stocking the hybrid tiger muskie back in 2006 or so. 36" is about right for that age but I'd expect there would be some bigger fish than that around. Awesome catch. Once they go docile after the initail run, you can gill them but best to have a large net or cradle.
