Looking for a rental HOUSE in Md. - help!

I am starting a new job in Bethesda on 3/1, and I am looking for a decent house (not condo, apt., or townhome) to rent within an hours' drive from there. My limit for monthly rent is around 2K. I have been looking hard on Craigslist, found a couple that were perfect for us, but someone beat us to them. Do any of you guys have a connection that could help us out?
We are currently in Alabama, so it's kinda hard to find anything from here.

Wow - This is a really tough crowd in this forum! 76 views to my question and ZERO replies. This is the second time I have asked a question and gotten no replies. Seems to be a pattern here...just for sh*ts-and-giggles, I totaled up all of the views vs. replies on this top page only to see for myself if it was just me or was it the norm to get no replies to questions here. The latter seems to be the case.

Those numbers reflect an interesting observation - This has got to be the most UN-interactive "forum" on the internet!
People do not come here to interact with fellow members, which is what forums are all about. In fact, the "data" above reduces this site to sub-forum levels. It seems to be a place where people come just to read and move on, repeat, repeat.
If that is truly not the case, and I am wrong in my thinking, there is only one other explanation. That explanation would involve the majority of forum members here being called a name that would only result in anger towards me, so I will refrain from revealing that at this time.
