I am very disappointed in this proposed registration increase. A mandatory 500% increase in vessel registration is downright criminal! Everywhere I go, I feel like OweMalley has his hand in my wallet, especially when it comes to the things I enjoy.
9% sales tax on all alcohol
proposed tax hike on gasoline (because gas is a "luxury item")
And now a 500% increase boat registration fees???!!!
Let's not forget the proposed tax modification he's introduced this session that redefines what Maryland considers wealthy (individuals making > $100K OR households making combined > $150K). This mod will decrease the exemptions you're allowed to claim.

All that said, the answer is simple. Register you boat in another, neighboring state for MUCH less...(hint it starts with a "D", and you don't have to move there)

Well, it appears that folks are still getting whet they percieve as a decent return, either in access to fishing and boating opportunities, or some other benefit from the state, because if the fees and taxes were so onerous, the economic reality would drive them to move to another state. At some point, a simple spreadsheet will tell you if you are getting your $$ worth. For the moment, most folks are getting enough benefit to stay put.
